FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
The most common questions we get about sheds, verandahs and carports — answered straight.
Do I need council approval for a shed in South Australia?
Most sheds over a certain size need council development approval. The exact rules depend on your council, zone (residential, rural, industrial) and shed dimensions. The good news: we handle the council approval for you — hassle-free. Trevarth deals with it as part of the job, so it's one less thing on your plate.
How long does it take to build a shed?
As a rough guide, most jobs run 6–10 weeks once council approval comes through. The build itself is usually quick — most of the time goes into approvals, ordering the kit, and waiting for the slab to cure. Larger rural and industrial buildings can take longer. We'll give you a clear timeline with each quote, so it pays to get your enquiry in early.
Do you arrange the concrete slab?
Yes. We can arrange the slab with trusted local concreters, and we can point you to good local electricians too if you want power run to your shed. Prefer to use your own tradies (or already have a slab)? No worries — just let us know and we'll work in with whoever you've got.
What size shed do I need?
Honest answer: bigger than you think. Almost every shed owner we know wishes they'd gone a size up. For a single car + storage, look at 6m × 6m minimum. For workshop use, 7m × 9m gives you proper room. For farm machinery, it depends on what you're parking — but a tractor with implements needs serious height (3m+) and depth (9m+). We'll help you size it right when we visit.
What materials do you use?
Quality Australian-made steel — Colorbond and Zincalume cladding, structural steel frames. We don't use cheap imports. Every component is engineered, certified, and built to handle SA weather (including strong winds and the occasional hail).
Can I get a custom-sized shed?
Yes — we build to suit. While there are standard kit sizes that are cheaper, we also build fully custom sheds with specific dimensions, bay configurations, door positions and roof heights. Tell us what you need and we'll work out the right approach.
Do you offer payment plans?
Most of our work is fixed-price with a deposit on quote acceptance, a progress payment, and final balance on completion. For larger jobs we can discuss staged payments. We're happy to chat through what works for you.
What about warranties?
All our work comes with a workmanship warranty, and steel cladding carries its own manufacturer's warranty (typically 15–25 years on Colorbond, depending on the product). We'll provide all paperwork at handover.
Can you repair an existing shed?
Yes — we do repairs, replacements and extensions. Storm damage, hail damage, rust, sagging roofs, new doors, lean-tos, full re-roofs. We're often called in for insurance jobs after big weather events. Send us photos and we'll let you know what's involved.
How far do you travel?
Further than most people think. We're based in North Moonta on the Yorke Peninsula, but we service most of South Australia — the Peninsula, the Mid-North, Clare, Adelaide and beyond. A lot of folks further out assume we won't come to them and go with an Adelaide company instead. Don't. Give us a ring first and we'll let you know. Chances are we've got you covered.
Is the quote really free?
Yes — free and no-obligation. We come to your property, take measurements, talk through your options, and give you a written fixed-price quote. If you decide not to go ahead, that's fine. No fees, no pressure.
What if I have a question that's not here?
Easy — give us a call on 0484 573 239 or send us a message via the contact page. We're happy to chat through anything before you commit to a quote.
